These maps show how many times each dot has experienced hurricane or tropical storm force winds multiple times in any year. In other words, a "two" dot has had at least one year since 1851 where the site has experienced hurricane force winds twice. Likewise, a "three" dot on the tropical storm map means the site has had at least one year with three tropical storm force wind events. A more detailed discussion of how these maps were made, as well as discussions related to other KAC research such as Iraq and satellite images, is located here.
